Answers

  • What is The Century Council?

We are a national, not-for-profit organization funded by distillers dedicated to fighting drunk driving and underage drinking. Recognizing nearly twenty years of progress, the distillers who fund us are Bacardi U.S.A., Inc.; Brown-Forman; Constellation Brands, Inc.; DIAGEO; Future Brands LLC; Hood River Distillers, Inc.; and Sidney Frank Importing Co., Inc.

  • Why do the distillers fund The Century Council?

The distillers who fund our organization do not want their products to be misused or consumed illegally. While the vast majority of people who enjoy beverage alcohol do so responsibly and are making socially acceptable choices, irresponsible alcohol use is not acceptable. The distillers' support of our mission reflects their concerns as responsible corporate citizens and their commitment to fighting drunk driving and underage drinking.

  • How much money have The Century Council's members provided?

Since our launch in May 1991, the distillers who fund us have invested more than $175 million to fight drunk driving and underage drinking.

  • What kind of groups are involved in The Century Council's programs?

Founded on the principle that: "Solving the problems of alcohol abuse is simple. All it takes is everyone," we are committed to working in partnership with a wide range of local, state, and national organizations. We work with partners such as the US Department of Education, US Department of Health and Human Services, American School Counselors Association, National Middle School Association, National Association of State Judicial Educators, the US Women's National Soccer Team Players Association, Nickelodeon, Scholastic, Federal Consumers Information Center, and the Federal Trade Commission. We are proud to work alongside numerous state liquor control boards and other education, traffic safety, law enforcement, health, community-based organizations, and local and federal government agencies to fight drunk driving and underage drinking. Learn more about our partners here.

  • Who leads The Century Council?

Former Member of Congress Susan Molinari is our Chairman and Ralph Blackman [11] is our President and CEO. Our programs and policies are guided by independent Advisory Boards of nationally-recognized experts in the fields of health, government, education, business, and communications.

  • What are The Century Council's positions on beverage alcohol industry legal, regulatory, and taxation issues?

We are dedicated solely to fighting drunk driving and underage drinking, and we do not take positions on legal, regulatory, or tax issues. Our lobbying efforts concern the passage and enforcement of tougher and more effective laws against drunk driving and underage drinking.

  • Does The Century Council provide grants?

We are not a grant-providing organization. As a not-for-profit organization, our resources are used to develop, produce, and distribute our educational programs.

  • What kinds of initiatives does The Century Council provide?

We provide a wide range of initiatives and public awareness campaigns that combat drunk driving and underage drinking. Please visit the See Our Initiatives section of this website to learn more about our work.

  • How much does The Century Council charge for the initiatives?

We provide our initiatives free-of-charge. In some cases where large amounts of materials are required, a certain number of copies are provided for free and additional materials are provided for the cost of the item plus shipping and handling.

  • How can I bring The Century Council's initiatives to my community?
